From Surviving to Thriving

Embracing Resourcefulness

Have you ever felt like you were just surviving? Like life is just about going through the motions day after day, wondering if this is all existence has to offer? For example, maybe you’ve been pouring all your energy into controlling everything around you (your body, your food, your schedule) but deep down, you feel completely disconnected from yourself.

I get it; I was that example.

And if you’re anything like me, the sheer exhaustion of it all can be your wake-up call. It’s that moment when you realize something has to change, not just on the surface, but from the inside out. You finally recognize that you don’t have to keep living in burnout. You can learn to trust yourself again and create a life that feels like it’s yours!

Stuck in Survival Mode

Let’s start here, with this basic question, “Are you just surviving right now?” If you’re not sure, survival mode feels like:

  • Waking up every day just trying to make it through.

  • Fixating on external things to gain control, like perfecting your food, your fitness, or your to-do list.

  • Feeling completely exhausted but unsure how to break the cycle.

It can really suck to accept but, if this resonates, it’s okay. Many of us have been stuck in this state at some point and it’s not our fault! We haven’t been taught how to cope with daily stressors in a way that embodies true self-care, not just the bubble baths and pizza nights. But, it will be your job to move forward and let go of the victim mentality because staying in survival mode isn’t your only option. There’s a way to shift from simply getting by to truly thriving.

What Does Thriving Look Like?

Thriving isn’t about having the perfect life or never struggling again, sorry to burst your bubble! It’s about feeling connected to yourself and finding a sense of purpose and joy, even in the messiness of life (especially in these moments, actually). And one of the most powerful ways to move from surviving to thriving is by becoming resourceful.

But, what does that mean?

Being resourceful is about finding solutions, seeing opportunities, and tapping into your creativity, no matter what challenges come your way. It’s about trusting that you already have the tools within and around you to create the life you want, without waiting for everything to feel perfect. So to put it simply, it’s about beating on yourself!

How to Embrace Resourcefulness in Your Life

If you’re ready to make this shift, here are some ways to start reclaiming your life:

  1. Reframe Challenges as Opportunities: When life throws you a curveball, ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?”. Challenges don’t have to be roadblocks, they can be stepping stones to growth, if you’re willing to view them as a puzzle instead of a pain.

  2. Learn to Trust Yourself: Start tuning into your instincts and values by letting go of the silly comparison trap. Trust that your decisions don’t need to be perfect, they just need to feel right for you.

  3. Tap Into What’s Around You: Resourcefulness isn’t just about what’s inside you; it’s about leveraging the tools, people, and opportunities already in your life. It’s okay to ask for help, so whether it’s seeking support from a friend, trying a new approach, or using what you already have, there’s no need to wait for “someday”.

  4. Honor the Small Victories: Take time to acknowledge the seemingly minor milestones along your journey. These moments of progress, no matter how small, matter! And being resourceful often involves piecing together little victories that lead to larger transformation.

  5. Lean Into Creativity: When challenges feel overwhelming, creativity can spark new solutions. Lean into possibility! Consider journaling, brainstorming, or drawing to open a new window in your life. There is no “right” or “wrong” here, there’s just fun in trying.

Your Next Steps

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to start thriving, this is it! Thriving doesn’t happen when everything is perfect. It happens when you learn to work with what you have, adapt to change, and trust your own ability to navigate life’s ups and downs. The tools you need are already within you, you just need to know how to start using them.

Take a moment today to reflect on this: “What resources am I not tapping into, and how can I use them to help me thrive?”.

When you begin trusting yourself and your resourcefulness, you’ll discover a life that’s more connected, fulfilling, and truly your own. You’ve got this and if you want some support, check out my 12 Week Coaching Program “Toodles” to Your “Trigger” Foods, accepting application now!
